On the one hand, you have the likes of the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus hatchbacks that are widely praised for being fun to drive on the other, there are vehicles like the Ford Fusion sedan that have adopted a more comfort-oriented approach. ![]() Nowadays, it seems Ford's passenger cars adopt one of two 'personalities' when it comes to the way they drive. Basically, touchscreen system aside, there's little else we find wrong with the Ford Edge ergonomics-wise. Still, at least the rest of the controls are to a more agreeable standard, with the widely-spaced buttons on the center console being easy to operate. Plus, lower specification cars come as standard with Ford's very antiquated 'Sync 2' infotainment system, which is sluggish to respond to inputs, isn't particularly intuitive and feels out of place in a car with a $28,000 base sticker price. Though the build quality itself is to a good standard, and many of the tactile surfaces are clad in leathers or soft-touch plastics, the cabin and control design doesn't quite match what's available in rivals such as the Kia Sorento. The premium feel is also an area that could be improved upon in the Ford Edge. For sure, a lot of cars in this class are strictly five-seaters as well (namely the aforementioned Nissan Murano and Jeep Grand Cherokee) and it meant Ford could make the Edge a spacious five-seater, but those looking for a mid-sized SUV with greater seating capacity will be far better off with something like a Toyota Highlander or a Honda Pilot. It's also worth highlighting that the Ford Edge isn't available in a seven-seater configuration. Plus, the 60:40 split-folding rear seat backs can be flipped forward to extend the load bay even further to 73.4 cubic feet – though it's worth pointing out that the seat backs don't fold away completely flat. Better still, the overall shape is rather boxy (not including the raked rear window), and the trunk lip is almost completely flush with the floor of the load area. Admittedly, the sloping rear window does compromise the overall space a tad, but the overall capacity of 39.2 cubic feet places the Ford Edge fairly high up in the mid-sized SUV pecking order (for instance, the Nissan Murano is only marginally more spacious, and the pricier Jeep Grand Cherokee trails behind relatively-speaking with its 36.3 cubic feet capacity). However, it's the trunk that we feel is the big selling point. With dimensions that aren't too far off higher-end off-roaders like the Land Rover Range Rover Sport, the Ford Edge is amongst one of the more spacious vehicles in this segment, with lots of overall head and leg room, decently-broad chairs in the back row and (bar the slightly narrow door bins) lots of sizeable storage cubbies. If you're after an SUV with loads of space, then the Ford Edge will likely be rather high up on your sports utility vehicle shopping list. ![]() Adobe is known for its commitment to security and privacy, so you can convert PDF files to Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, or Excel with trust and confidence. Also with the strong engine coupled with the 10 speed transmission, one could smoke the front tire all day. The lane keeping assistant is not very effective. The cruse control worked reasonable well, but a little too aggressive at slowing down if another vehicle merged in front or us. Lots of glare on the entertainment / navigation display, I may make my own leather over-hang shade to deal with this shortcoming. The fit is also not as good as I've come to expect from Honda, the doors and hood all have somewhat uneven gaps, some less visible interior panels also didn't fit well. And the seat back on the 2nd row doesn't fold down flat against the seat, somewhat compromising its ability to haul stuff, the 2nd row seats are also pretty heavy, making it difficult to remove if you wanted to haul larger items. The front passenger seat was a little high above the floor for my wife (5' 3") making her thighs a bit tire on long trips, they're perfectly comfortable for me (5' 10"), the driver seat is adjustable, so no problems for either of us. ![]() The few negative points are the accelerator has a huge dead spot at the beginning of travel, takes a while to get use to. It has lots of outlets, 110VAC, 12V and USB chargers. Noise level is pretty … low for a minivan, handling is acceptable, braking performance and feel are very good for a minivan. The interior is quite nice, the entertainment system sounds very good, Android phone connectivity works well, both Google Maps & Waze from my phone displayed on the screen. The Odyssey Touring and Elite's 10 speed transmission is nicely matched to the engine, giving this van very good acceleration, better than all other minivans and the vast majority of the SUV's. Moving up to the Odyssey Touring gets you the above, plus front and rear parking sensors, LED headlights, automatic engine stop-start, a hands-free liftgate, an integrated vacuum cleaner, a rear-cabin camera monitoring system (CabinWatch), and an onboard 4G LTE connection with a Wi-Fi hotspot and HondaLink services.įinally, the Elite tops off the Odyssey range with 19-inch wheels, power-folding mirrors, noise-reducing glass for the front and rear windows, ventilated front seats, an 11-speaker premium audio system and a wireless phone charger. This version of the EX-L also has a 110-volt power outlet and a cabin intercom system, which broadcasts the driver's or front passenger's voice to the rear seating areas. The latter includes a 10.2-inch overhead display, a Blu-ray player and an HDMI input. The EX-L with Navigation and Rear Entertainment System is similar but adds, as its name implies, a navigation system and a rear-seat entertainment system. You get a sunroof, a noise-reducing windshield, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a power liftgate, leather upholstery, driver-seat memory settings, and two charging USB ports for the second row. Honda starts to crank up the luxury with the EX-L. ![]() But, wait, there's more! Honda also fits this trim level with extra driver safety aids that include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning and lane keeping assist. The EX also has more modern tech with its 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, and satellite and HD radio. These include power-sliding rear doors, keyless ignition and entry, remote engine start, three-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, enhanced sliding functionality for the second-row outboard seats (Magic Slide), a removable center seat and second-row window sunshades. Next up is the EX, and it's here you get features that really start to make your life easier. The Odyssey LX starts you off with features such as 18-inch alloy wheels, a rearview camera, automatic climate control, power-adjustable front seats, a 60/40-split folding third-row seat, a 5-inch central display screen, Bluetooth, two USB ports, and a seven-speaker sound system. ![]() If that was your name in high school, nobody would have ever messed with you. For as much as I played this one as a kid, it had to make the list. It has its quirks, and the water level is insane, but it crams a lot into an NES cart. In fact, all the negative feelings around this one almost kept it off the list, but when it comes down to it Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was one of the greats, and a dang good title. Some people just aren't wired for old school gaming, apparently. Once again I say "screw you Angry Nintendo Nerd" with this one. Many gamers wanted a port of Konami's arcade beat-'em-up of the same name instead, but had to wait until 1991, when a port of the arcade classic came to the NES under the TMNT 2 moniker. Unfortunately, this game didn't satisfy everyone. It also had multiple fields-of-view, from top-down navigation to side-scrolling sequences, the perspectives were mixed up considerably at a time when games were usually from one outlook only. The great thing about TMNT was its ability to let gamers use all four Ninja Turtles at will, even though it was only a one-player action game. Developed by Konami and published by its subsidiary Ultra (a ghost publisher created only so that Konami could publish more games per year than Nintendo allowed), TMNT proved to be a fun, challenging game with crisp graphics and compelling gameplay. ![]() Naturally, it was only a matter of time before a videogame followed the television show and toys. ![]() Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a smash phenomenon in the late 1980s. The day this one was conquered was when I finally found Game Genie codes, booted up two players and made sure either my brother or I stayed alive to keep the progress on our assault. Two guys with a knife and a suicide complex decide to invade Russia. ![]() This is the original co-op Splinter Cell (minus the stealth part). Your standard melee attack was a stabbing knife, with distance-attacking firearms available later on, but no matter what your armament, you had to be precise with your placement or cheap death was inevitable. Instead, it was a lot easier to take your time and advance through each level slowly, as waves of soldiers spawned from all direction to charge you and kill you dead. Rush 'n Attack is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up/shooter that didn't reward new players for attempting its titular strategy. You've got to remember the historical time period that the NES was released – it was an age when the Cold War was still a very prominent problem in many American's minds, and game companies certainly didn't shy away from the free advertising that the fear-inspiring nightly news and morning papers were instilling in the purchasing public. It doesn't take a master of Mad Gab to discern the phonetically equivalent true title Konami was going for with this one, especially after you realize that the setting is a Soviet stronghold and all of the enemies are Communists. Do you need anything else? It's no Blades of Steel (hell EA's NHL09 isn't Blades of Steel), but growing up in Minnesota and playing on a hockey team ensured that this one was in the NES as much as Super Mario 3. I think I've got the same fond memory for this one as everyone else does: skinny dude, medium dude, and fat dude. The only game that ended up rivaling this excellent design was Konami's Blades of Steel, but the two were different enough to own and enjoy both (which is why you'll find Blades on this countdown). Every Ice Hockey player discovered their own perfect combination of men, and then it was on to the ice. You could choose from three different player body types, and outfit your team with any combination of them fast but weak Skinny Guys, brawny but slow Fat Guys, or well-balanced, middle-ground Normal Guys. This game of skating and slap shots was perfectly balanced, simple fun with just the right touch of planning and strategy to keep things interesting match after match. None of those games ended up having the lasting appeal and addictiveness of one of its other contemporaries, though – the first-party Nintendo sports sim known simply as Ice Hockey. Nintendo had a fairly diverse lineup of sports titles introduced for the NES early on in the system's life cycle, including 8-bit interpretations of soccer, tennis, volleyball and even downhill slalom skiing. The analysis suggests that caricatures, clichés and stereotypes of China, Chinese people and Chinese 'things' are so common that there can be said to be a glaring seam of unacknowledged, uninterrogated and hence 'invisible' racism in British advertising. Based on a historical survey of British television adverts from 1955 to 2018, it argues that a predictable, recurring, limited set of aural, visual and narrative clichés and stereotypes have functioned-and continue to function-as the principal resources to evoke 'Chineseness' in British television adverts. ![]() This article asks whether orientalism remains present or active within one dominant contemporary media context: British television adverts. Edward Said's theory of orientalism proposes that Western European culture has overwhelmingly tended to (mis)represent non-European cultures, societies, regions, and ethnic groups via mythic, romantic, simplistic and simplifying sets of binaries. |
